Terms of service
These terms explain what you can expect from Assigned, what we expect from you, and how subscriptions, cancellations and refunds work.
Last updated 10 October 2026
The short version
- Your first 45 days are free, with no card needed. After that Assigned is $30 USD a year plus tax, and you can cancel any time.
- There are no refunds, except within 14 days of your first payment if you live in the EU, EEA or UK.
- Your data is yours, and you can export it at any time, even after your subscription ends.
- Assigned is a budgeting tool, not financial advice: decisions about your money stay yours.
1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Nora Kristiansen, a private individual based in Norway, who runs Assigned ("we", "us"). They cover the Assigned website and app. By creating an account you accept them.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
2. Who can use Assigned
You must be at least 16 to use Assigned. To buy a subscription you must be old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live, or have permission from a parent or guardian.
3. Your account
- Give an email address that is yours and that you can reach.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- Tell us at hello@assigned.money straight away if you think someone else has got into it.
4. The service
Assigned is a zero-based budgeting app. It never connects to your bank: everything in a budget is entered by you or the people you share it with, or imported from a file. You are responsible for keeping what you enter accurate.
Assigned is run by one person. We work to keep it available and your data safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available, free of errors, or answered within a set time. We may add, change or remove features. If a change takes away something important you pay for, we will tell you in advance.
5. Households and shared budgets
- The person who creates a budget owns it, and their subscription pays for it. They can invite up to 4 people, who use the budget for free.
- Someone invited to a budget needs a subscription of their own to create budgets of their own.
- If the owner's trial or subscription ends, the budget is locked for everyone in it until the owner subscribes again.
- If the owner deletes their account, the budget is deleted for everyone. If anyone else leaves or deletes their account, their private accounts and categories go with them, and what they recorded in shared ones stays in the budget.
- Only invite people you trust with what you share: they can see and change shared accounts, categories and transactions.
6. Trial, price and payment
- Trial. Your first 45 days are free, and you do not need a card to start. Each person gets one trial.
- Price. After the trial, Assigned costs $30 USD a year, plus tax, billed once a year. Prices on our website are in US dollars and exclude tax. At checkout, any VAT, GST or sales tax is added based on your billing location, the price is converted to your local currency, and you see the full total before you confirm.
- Who you pay. Subscriptions are sold by Stripe through its Link service, which is the merchant of record: it takes the payment, charges tax and sends your receipts. The charge appears on your statement as LINK.COM. Link's terms apply to the payment itself.
- Renewal. A subscription renews automatically every year until you cancel it. You get an email before each renewal.
- Price changes. If the price changes, we tell you at least 30 days before your next renewal, and the new price applies from that renewal on. You can cancel before it does.
When a trial or subscription ends without being renewed, your budgets lock. Nothing is deleted: you can still export your data or delete it, and subscribing again unlocks everything as it was.
7. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time under Settings → Subscription → Manage billing. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep full access until the end of the year you have paid for.
We do not give refunds, including for part of a year, except under the right of withdrawal in section 8.
8. Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the European Union, the EEA or the United Kingdom, you can withdraw from your subscription within 14 days of your first payment, without giving a reason. Email hello@assigned.money from the address on your account within those 14 days. We will end the subscription and give you a full refund within 14 days of your email.
The right applies to your first payment, not to yearly renewals. The free trial is not a payment, so the 14 days start when you first pay.
9. Your data
Your budget data is yours. You give us permission to store and process it only so we can run Assigned for you and the people you share budgets with. We never sell it, never use it for advertising, and never use it to train AI models.
You can export your budgets under Settings → Export budget at any time, including after your subscription has ended. How we handle personal data, and how long we keep it, is set out in our privacy policy.
10. Acceptable use
When using Assigned, do not:
- use it for anything illegal;
- try to get into accounts, budgets or systems that are not yours;
- disrupt or overload the service, or get around its limits, such as the limit on invitation emails;
- copy, reverse engineer or resell the service, or access it with automated tools without our permission;
- use invitations or anything else in Assigned to send people unwanted messages.
11. Suspension and deletion
You can delete your account at any time under Settings → Delete account.
If you break section 10, we may suspend or close your account. We will tell you why and, where we can, give you the chance to put things right and to export your data first. We may act without warning when the law requires it, or when that is needed to protect other people or the service.
Accounts nobody has used for 24 months, and accounts whose email address was never confirmed, are deleted as described in the privacy policy. You are warned by email before an inactive account is deleted.
If we ever close Assigned, we will tell you at least 60 days in advance, keep export working until the end, and refund the unused part of any year you have paid for.
12. Not financial advice
Assigned is a budgeting tool. It is not a bank, a lender or a financial adviser, and nothing in it, including the debt payoff planner, is financial advice. Decisions about your money are yours; for advice on your situation, talk to a qualified professional.
13. Ownership and feedback
Assigned, its design and its code belong to us. These terms give you the right to use it, not to own any part of it. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve Assigned without owing you anything for them.
14. Limitation of liability
Assigned is provided as it is and as it is available. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits or savings, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 USD.
None of this limits liability for death or personal injury, for fraud, for harm caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or anything else that cannot be limited by law, including your rights as a consumer.
15. Events beyond our control
We are not responsible for failing to provide Assigned because of events we cannot reasonably control, such as outages at our hosting providers, internet failures, natural disasters or war.
16. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we update the date at the top. If a change is material, we email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree with it, you can cancel your subscription or delete your account before then; continuing to use Assigned after that means you accept the new terms.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by Norwegian law, and disputes go to the Norwegian courts. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you can also bring a claim in the courts there.
If something goes wrong, please contact us first at hello@assigned.money: most problems are quicker to solve by email.
